What are Probiotics?
The World Health Organisation’s 2001 definition of probiotics is “live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host”. Lactobacillus, the probiotic that is used extensively, had been added in food for many years and recognised as microorganism that is safe and helpful to human body.
How do Probiotics Help?
Probiotics interact and activate intestinal antigen presenting cell (APC) which could downregulate skin allergy symptoms by activating regulatory T cell (Treg).
Allergy results from overreaction of type II T helper cell (Th2) and IgE. Treg helps to reduce excessive Th2 and IgE helps to alleviate allergy symptoms.
